Escape from reality (Series)

2018 – 2020

In this series, Debajit Rudra Paul’s paintings are imaginary landscapes that weave together images drawn from the realms of conscious and subconscious memory. By combining disparate elements, he creates dreamlike scenarios that defy straightforward interpretation. Rather than guiding the viewer through a predetermined narrative, Paul’s approach invites them to project their own meanings and emotions onto the artwork.

The landscape backgrounds in his paintings serve as a catalyst for the viewer’s imagination, allowing them to become an active participant in the creative process. This ambiguity can evoke a wide range of emotional responses, with different viewers interpreting the same piece in vastly different ways. By embracing the Rashomon effect, Paul’s work acknowledges the subjective nature of truth and experience, fostering a dynamic and deeply personal connection between the artwork and the viewer’s psyche.
